Beginning of the Legend

Because of Dayton O. Hyde, the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary was created in 1988 for America’s wild horses that lost their freedom on America’s western rangelands.

Because of you, the horses of the Sanctuary today are guaranteed a life of freedom.  They are the living legacy of Dayton’s vision and will forever be grateful for your support.

Be a part of the Legacy - for $100 plus $6.20 tax to support the horses, you will receive the 2025 calendar which features “up close and personal” photos of some of the Sanctuary’s most popular horses.

Help feed the Wild Horses

100% of your funding goes for the hay, cake, and water supply for feeding the wild horse herds here at the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. Your gifts provide a life of freedom by giving the unwanted mustangs a Forever Home.

Thank you from the horses!

Thunder...

You will feel them before you hear them. You will hear them before you see them. There on the horizon, stretch the sources of the thunder. Neither men nor machines nor the timeless rumblings of a prairie storm. They are the wild mustangs, and they are home at last!
